Registration Process
Are there any restrictions on my username?
You must create a unique username. Your username must be a minimum of 6 characters and a maximum of 20 characters. It may contain letters, numbers and any of the following symbols: ! @ # $ % & * + = - ' ?. USA TODAY reserves the right to remove any participants that use inappropriate language in their usernames.
Are there limitations on passwords?
Passwords must be a minimum of 6 characters and a maximum of 20 characters.
How many teams can I create?
Each registrant is eligible to create 1 unique team. You cannot create multiple teams in private and public leagues.
Why do you need my e-mail address?
We will only use your e-mail address to communicate with you if you ask to receive our e-mail newsletters, and to confirm your mailing address if you win one of the contest prizes.
Joining And Creating a League
How do I create a private pool?
Click "Play Now" on the 56 Hit Streak Challenge home page. Choose to create your own league and complete the necessary steps including creating a league name, password (if you want a private league) and league description. Any private pool created with inappropriate language will be removed.
Once I create a private pool, how do I get my friends or co-workers to join?
Once your league is created, an "Invite" menu tab will display next to the "My Hitters," "Standings" and "GameTracker" menu tabs. Click "Invite" and you will be able to enter e-mail addresses for your friends, co-workers, etc., and an invitation including a link to your league will be mailed to those potential players. If you do not wish to use the invite process, you can send e-mails directly from your own account and include your league details (league name and password if applicable).
Can I create or join pools at any time?
Yes. There is no deadline for creating or joining 56 Hit Streak Challenge until the final game of the Major League Baseball season has been played. Please note, you can only create one pool per account.
Where do I join to compete for prizes?
Once you register an account and join a league, all participants compete for prizes. You do not have to join a specific public or private league to be eligible for the prizes.
Standings Pages and Making Selections
How do I know how I am doing?
Your My Hitters page will always display your current streak in the right hand column.
View the standings page to see how your team is doing in comparison to other current teams. The standings page displays the current top 50 participants according to your current streak.
Prizes are awarded according to the best streaks at the end of the season. The standings page defaults to show current streaks, but can be sorted to view the Best Streaks of the season by clicking that Best Streaks column title.
How do I get to a page where I can make my picks?
When you login to your league, you will start on your "My Hitters" page. On this page you will see all of your past selections and the ability to pick the current day and 6 days of hitter selections on future games. A link will be available next to each date to make your selection for those days.
Can I see other players' picks?
You can view all past selections from any other team. You cannot view selections from games which have not yet started. Please click the team name from the standings page you wish to view, to see their previous selections.
When are standings updated?
The standings are updated for the following morning after each day’s games.
How can I figure out the identity of people in my private or public league?
The identity of other contest participants is not promoted at this time.
Do I have to pick every day?
Yes. You must make a player selection for every day a Major League Baseball game is played. If there is a scheduled MLB game and you do not make a hitter selection your streak will be broken.
How do I save my Hitter selection?
When you click the radio button next to any hitter, that player will be saved automatically and can be viewed on you’re My Hitters page.
Can I change my hitter selection?
Yes, you can change any hitter selection up until the game time for your selection has started. If you choose to make a new hitter selection, only hitters from the remaining games not yet started will be available.
I do not see the player I want on the hitter list?
Only players with games on the current day will be available as hitter selections. Please check the schedule of the player you want to choose. Also, once a game has started for any player, they are removed from the hitter selection list.
I did not get credit for my hit in a suspended game?
No stats will count from a game which is suspended and your streak will not increase or be broken. Even if your player got a hit before the game was suspended this will not extend your streak.
I am going away – will my streak be broken?
You can choose up to 7 days (current day plus 6 future days) of selections at anytime. Once you have reached the 8th day, if you do not have a player selection that gets a hit your streak will be broken.
What if my player doesn’t play – will that break my streak?
Your player must have an official at bat where they have the opportunity to hit, in order to extend or break your streak. If your hitter selection does not play or walked each at bat, or the game is canceled and therefore does not get a hit, your streak will not be broken. But if your player has no hits in one at-bat before leaving the game for any reason, your streak will be broken.
